The hotel is situated on the corner of two streets in the very heart of Granada,
Alhondiga St. and Sierpe Baja St. The Cathedral is approximately 2 mins. walking
distance away and the road leading up to the Alhambra Palace approx. 5 mins.
Although the establishment is in the middle of the commercial and social centre
of the city, one can still find peace and tranquility, as the two streets in
which the hotel is located are quiet after the shops shut. Furthermore, all
rooms are double glazed with the Climalit system.
The building which houses the hotel in Alhondiga St. was constructed in 1864.
At the same time the adjoining building, in Sierpe Baja St., belonging to doña
Rosario, was built. The latter was used as a coaching inn from the outset,
and you can still see the entranceway for the carriages today. Interestingly,
when reforms were carried out, an underground passageway connecting the two buildings
was found. Probably used as a secret “tunnel of love” for the Marquess and the innkeeper.
A further discovery was made when renovating the hotel cellars, in that the building has
been constructed over Roman and Arabic ruins (houses).
We offer both a restaurant and cafeteria service, located on the ground floor of
the building in Sierpe Baja St., where typical Andalusian cuisine can be enjoyed,
if one wishes. Native dishes can, in fact, be divided into two categories,
Andalusian cuisine (cocina andaluza) and “Arabic” Andalusian cuisine (cocina andalusi).
