The mosque was built from 780, on the site of the Visigothic church of St-Vincent, and successively extended by the addition of new naves until 987 when it had its current dimensions.The mosque is without doubt a masterpiece of Muslim art.

Originally Arab the Almodóvar gate underwent serious restoration in the 19C and an internal crenellated facade was added. To the left of the gate notice the statue of Seneca. Don't miss the night time illuminations.

This bridge crosses the River Guadalquivir between the bridge gate and the Calahorra Tower. Built under Augustus, it has been rebuilt many times, especially under the Arabs.

This gate resembles mostly an arc de triomphe but that was not its main function. Built in the 16C if followed a classical plan with large Doric columns, an entablature, a frieze and a curved frontispiece decorated with a shield held by two warriors.

Maimonides Monument

The Monument to Maimónides, summit of the Cordovan Jewish thought and that as Aberroes tried to conciliate philosophy and religion, is a statue made by the escultor Amadeo Ruiz Elm trees.

Roman Mausoleum

During the course of works in 1993 this Roman mausoleum was found in the Victoria gardens. This solid circular construction from the 1st century dates from the Roman era, an age of splendour for Cordoba.

On the square of the Conde Priego, opposite the Fernandine church of Santa Marina de Aguas Santas, stands the monument to Manolete (1917-1947), this legendary bullfighter spent his early years in the district of Santa Marina.

Synagogue

This is with the two synagogues in Toledo, one of the rare medieval synagogues still existing in Spain. Built at the start of the 14C it is small and is in the form of a square open on one side to a stand reserved for women.
