Origin of the Costa del SOL The Costa del Sol consists of a lot of former fishermans villages, most to the west of Malaga City, that once discovered by mass-tourism in the late sixties, have grown exponentially and clustered to one of Spain’s biggest holiday resorts.Accomodations at Costa del Sol Villages of the Costa del Sol To the east of Malaga city you find:Nerja Once a small fishing village Nerja is now the biggest resort to the east of Málaga. There are still plenty of bars and nightclubs for those wanting to party the night away, however the old centre of the town has retained some of its original charm. The Balcón de Europa is a cliff that juts out to sea and is enclosed by two sheltered beaches, it is a favourite spot of many visitors with a beautiful view of the Mediterranean. Nerja is probably most famous for its caves which lie some 6km inland. Discovered in 1959 by some boys chasing bats they discovered the entrance to a huge system of limestone caverns. Villages of the Costa del Sol To the west of Malaga city you find:Torremolinos At only a few kilometers from the airport, this was the first town to develop into the tourist industry and probably the most famous of the villages. Now it is one of the main destinations on the Costa del Sol and the beach is well established to take in a mass amount of tourists. There are plenty of souvenir shops, cafes and bars for all tasts.Benalmádena and Benalmádena costa Is situated 2,41 km above sea level and only 2 km from the coast, is set on a plateau forming a huge balcony over the Mediterranean. Benalmádena costa is the “sister-town” on the coast and the most popular beach of the Costa del Sol. Due to the great number of people you can find a lot of activities done on the beach itself like life music or dance shows. |

There is also a little marina port here, full of boats and jet skis for hire and for the less active plenty of shops, cafes and bars. Mijas - Mijas CostaThese are actually two separate entities. While Mijas Costa refers to an area of the coast, incorporating many of the coastal towns around Fuengirola, Mijas itself is a small village in the hills overlooking Fuengirola. Marbella This town takes a special place both in the Costa del Sol as in the whole of Spain. It is a preferred destination for both national as internation JetSet. At Porto Banus it’s port, you can see many impressive yachts.San Pedro de Alcántara Now becoming one the nicest beaches west of Marbella, with the huge development in the local area and a big increase in visitors, this beach has a lot to offer. With a brand new promenade stretching for pleasant walks and jogging, And now you can try yourself out at water skiing without going into deep water with the very popular Cable Ski Park in San Pedro look for the signs when you arrive at the San Pedro Junction.Estepona Being the last town in line, this newly reformed stretch of coast line has still some of those nice little quiet spots and areas for that peaceful sun bathe away from the vast amount of tourists.
