Alhaurín de la Torre

Alhaurín de la Torre, entrance to the Valle del Guadalhorce, is located in a strategically priveleged situation as it is just north of Sierra de Mijas, some 15 kilometres from Málaga, 10 kilometres from Torremolinos and just 8 kilometres from the airport.

Alhaurín de la Torre is a residential village with two very different areas: the Old District (el Barrio Viejo) or Albaicín which maintains the charms of the muslim times with cul de sacs and narrow lanes which resemble the labyrynthine structures which were Arab towns. The facades are whitewashed and have grille windows decked out with flowers and it is where we find the most meaningful monuments. The other is the residential area of large developments, with large, open spaces and gardens.

As for places to visit, certain locations stand out such as the Iglesia Parroquial de San Sebastián, which was built at the behest of Queen Isabel the Catholic in the plaza de la Concepción in 1610; Arcos de Zapata, which are the well preserved remains of what was the Aqueduct of Fuente del Rey dating from the 18th century, which was built to carry water to Malaga; the Hermitage of El Alamillo, which was built in 1875 to honour San Francisco de Paula; and the vaulted niche of Santo Cristo del Cardón.

Although life in Alhaurín de la Torre is generally tranquil, there are various bars with lively music. Metrópoli, on Calle Álamos, the street just up from the tourist office; Maná abd Sala Latina, next to the main park, the restaurant-nightclub Tangaroa...

There is also a tennis club and a modern covered sports hall to do aerobics, bodybuilding and stepping.
