Constantina is a pretty village which can be found in the the foothills of the Sierra Morena in the Nature Park of the Sierra North of Seville, a 90 km from the Capital. The Nature Park of the Sierra North consists of a region of the Sierra Morena where the countryside is dominated by ranges of oak and cork oak trees. Some endangered species live here such as small black storks and the imperial eagle. It is an ideal location for lovers of nature. Its natural country charms are in the municipal region of Constantina overlooking the Hueznar riverbank, with its woods in view and the Huéznar Waterfalls (25 km from Cazalla, San Nicolás del Puerto). The Nature Park of Sierra North, Seville is covered by a network of Trails officially designated by the Environment and Tourist Agencies. In the district of Constantina you can find the trail of"Los Castañares" / the trail of "Molino del Corcho" (Huesna Riverbank) / "Camino de la Jurdana" and the trail of "Cerro Hierro". Huesna Riverbank has many diverse Recreational Areas (such as Isla Margarita) which invite you to relax at its source and to wander around the lush woodlands which make it as it is. It must be pointed out that these waters contain the only trout fishing reserve in the province of Seville, where you can try to catch some of these difficult to catch fish.![]() In Constantina it is possible to partake in many forms of hunting in many small or large game reserves mainly focussed on the most popularly hunted animals such as deer, wild boars, rabbits and partridge. A large network of livestock routes running through our district enables us to partake in such activities as mountain biking, horseriding and trekking.9 kilometres away in San Nicolás del Puerto the Hill of Iron, Cerro del Hierro, can be found. It is a karstified mountain of great scenic beauty and is paradise for climbers due to the large number of rock-climbing trails. It is here that people go rock climbing and abseiling combining these with observing the rich flora and fauna which prevail in the region. Also to be found in our community is the Centre for the receptionand interpretation of nature "EL ROBLEDO" supported by the Department for the Environment, which has a botanical garden, an interactive museum, a preservation zone for birds of prey and an information office. In addition, the caves of "La Sima" can be found in the poorer districts west of the area of La Morería, within the town of Constantina (Sevilla), at an altitude of approximately 550 metres. The total amount of La Sima mapped measures about 190 metres with a height difference of 22 metres. |

As far as the cultural legacy is concerned, the entire region is interesting for those attracted by popular architecturewhich has been aided by declaring the large part of the old town a Region of Historical Artistical Interest . It is recommended that visitors stroll around the streets on the hillsides of Castillo, known popularly as las Cuestas, in the southern part of which the area known as La Morería can be found in which there is still a fair amount of the layout and constructions from Muslim times. It is the oldest part of the town. North of these hillsides you will find the main parts of the old parish churches of Santa Constanza and Santiago, with their traditional construction methods being very similar to la Morería. The centre of Valle de la Osa, next to the river which flows past in view of passers by, is a more recent construction, dating from between the 15th and 18th centuries, and built in a more religious manner, but it is also worthwhile in order to see the contrasts with the areas previously reviewed. The streets are large and flat and demonstrate the economic power of the commercial and industrial landowners linked to the businesses of liquor, livestock and timber. Amongst the most unique buildings the following stand out: the Castillo, with 3 of its 7 towers, the Church of Santa María de la Encarnación, with its tower facade; The Ruins of the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Ivy... As in other villages of this region, there are numerous farms and workplaces of interest: windmills, ice mines, homes, etc. After this you should return to the buildings of cultural importance which stand out, the Hermitage of Our Lady of Oak Wood (la Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Robledo), patron saint of the village. Basic elements of Constantina cooking are usually : meat, game, and local sausage. The quality of the sausage where the jamón ibérico, morcón, chorizo and morcillas have their own tradition will delight the most demanding palates. |
