Galera

The village of Galera is in the north of the province of Granada situated in a valley with two rivers, surrounded by the Sierra de Cazarlo in the provincia de Jaén, La Sagra, the nature parks of Castril, Baza and María - Los Velez in Almería.

In this area there are many remains of ancient civilisations, like the Argar archaeological site and the Tutigi Iberian Roman burial ground.

The underground dwelling is one the greastest attractions in these villages. Their cave suburbs are a historic testimony of a from of construction that sitll exists and is one of man´s singular adaptations of the natural environment.

When you first enter the rural accomomodation in the Cave-Home you will immediately be amazed by the interior design.

The walls and ceilings have been chiselled out, whiteswashed, narrow passages lead to hidden rooms deep into the cave, bends and steps, lookout point and doors are all part of the interior design.

The Villages in the district

When you visit the villages in the district the first thing that strickes you is the great constrasts of stone, whitewash and clay, immersed in light that is sometimes dazzling and at others mixed with shade, but always special. You will be surprised by the beautiful monuments and the suburbs with narrow streets that open into squeares that are almost homely. Villages protected by a back drop of mountains or perched on the sides of a mountain like tiny oasis of life.
