San Fernando

San Fernando is located oin the Costa de la Luz on the Bay of Cadiz, 10 km from Cadiz city . It is known as "La Isla" (the island) because it is surrounded by canals and salt marshes that join the bay with the Atlantic . It is a town with a seafaring tradition and heavily influenced by the presence of the Navy.

Before the Roman colonisation, the town had been inhabited by Phoenicians, the Tarshish and the Carthaginians that left San Fernando with the base for its splendour.

The town flourished at this time thanks to its agricultural activity, the fish salting industry and manufacturing. This Roman magnificence fell into decline as a consequence of the invasion of the barbarian Visigoths.

- Hotel Bahia Sur: It´s located in the bahía de Cádiz centre and with sea sights. At minutes from Cádiz, at 8 minutes from the beach and at 40 minutes from Jérez airport.

- Hotel AC Salymar: Located in the center of the city, next to the Church Square, in front of the San Pedro and San Pablo Church and a few metres from the Town Hall.

The naval shipbuilding industry is important to the town as are the economic benefits derived from its famous Salt Works and fish farms.

The unusual architecture of its houses is typical of southern Andalusia , with their characteristic facades with wrought iron grates over the windows and doors.

Due to San Fernando 's unusual location the fish ( mullet, sole, sea bass) from its salt marsh natural fish farms have a special taste. The towns typical shellfish include "cañaillas" (sea snails) and "bocas de la isla" claws from a particular type of crab that mysteriously regenerate.

The beautiful sandy Camposoto beach is 9 km long located inside the Bay of Cadiz Natural Park

- Significant in the towns history is the "Teatro de las Cortes" (Theatre of the Courts), converted into a political chamber for the Spanish parliament in 1810 before the courts were moved to Cadiz in 1812.

Camarón de la Isla

José Monge Cruz, Camarón de la Isla, is the most important person borned in San fernando. This famous flamenco singer is well know in the world. You will be able to visit his house and make a tour in the city about him.
