Malaga City Málaga is a bright and cheerful city of many gardens surrounded by charming, Arab influenced, Andalucian architecture. ![]() This is the birthplace of the famous painter, Picasso (make sure you visit the Picasso Museum). A city that offers the visitor the opportunity to experience its one thousand years history, forged between the mountains and the sea, right in the heart of the city itself. In a few minutes walk, one can visit the Roman Theatre, be amazed by the Arab Alcazaba fortress, admire the majesty of the renaissance Cathedral and then soak up the lively atmosphere of the adjacent streets.Serrania de Ronda ![]() It’s best to start this tour in the town of Ronda itself, one of the most historical and romantic places in Andalucia. ![]() Begin with the Puente Nuevo and enjoy the breathtaking view of the gorge and river Tajo, some three hundred feet below. Nearby is the oldest bullring in Spain. Buildings worth visiting are – the College of Santa Maria, the palaces of Mondragon and Marques de Salvatierra and the Arab bathes. ![]() The mountain range (serrania) of Ronda is part of the traditional White Towns route which includes place like – Atajate, Benadalid, Algatocin, Gaucin and many more. ![]() Finally, mention must be made of the Sierra de la Nieves country park which preserves a remnant of a third period conifer forest as well as the rarest pine anywhere, the pinsapo. Axarquia The Entrance to Axarquia is in the El Palo neighbourhood of Malaga which joins with the tourist areas of Cala del Moral and the Rincon de la Victoria. Further along the coast are the towns of Torre de Mar, Velez-Malaga, Algarrobo, Torrox Costa and Nerja with its famous cave and Europe balcony.![]() ![]() Vega del Guadalhorce The River Guadalhorce flows through a fertile valley, of mainly citrus fruits, before reaching the sea at Malaga. This is a valley with traditional villages such as Alkhaurin de la Torre, Alhaurin el Grande, Cartema, Pizarra, Alora and Coin. The Parque Ardales is “a must see” location with its Conde de Guadalhorca lake, the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes (narrow pass) and the Garganta (throat) del Chorro – some two miles long and over 700 feet deep, the place where three rivers meet – Turon, Guadalete, and Guadalhorce. It’s an ideal place for rock climbing. To complete your excursion have a look at the ruins of the tenth century Moorish church of Bobastro and the prehistoric cave of Ardales. |
