Representative of much of the regional architecture, this magnificent construcion is highlighted with polychromatic ceramic tiles. The semicircular plaza has a diametre of 200 metres and is flanked by two spectacular towers and a bordering lake that are especially worth seeing. It was built because of the Ibero-american Exhibition of 1929, held in Seville. Its creator was Aníbal González. He mixed a style inspired by the Renaissance with typical elements from the city: exposed brick, ceramics and wrought iron (worked by Domingo Prida). Its floor plan is semicircular. It is dominated by 2 towers, one on each side of the enclosed area, which frame the central building where the main rooms are. Between the two towers runs a network of galleries with an arcade of semicircular arches leading to exits in different parts of the square, where a fountain stands. The large brick building flanked at each end by a high tower has fifty eight benches in recesses decorated with tiles, depicting historic episodes for each province of Spain.Other important monuments SevilleThe Alcázar palace The Giralda tower The Cathedral Plaza de España Pilate's house Full list of monuments in Seville City Granada - Alhambra Córdoba - Mezquita Ronda - Puente nuevo |

However, at this moment the 19 years young Jedi, unaware of his destiny of turning into the evil Darth Vader in the future, is still an aprentice of his master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and fighting the Empire toghether with other heroes like Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) and Yoda. The Shooting Episode II stars Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker) and Natalie Portman (Queen Amidala) finished their last day of principal photography in Seville, Spain, on Sept. 12 2001, according to the official Star Wars Web site. The duo filmed on location in Seville's famous Plaza de España, also recognizable to fans of Lawrence of Arabia. Hundreds of Spanish fans cheered and displayed banners at the location. Director George Lucas, visual effects supervisor John Knoll and other members of the crew stayed and signed autographs for an hour after the shoot, the site reported. It's the end of a shoot day near the end of production. George Lucas has finished a scene wherein Seville doubles as the beautiful city of Theed on Naboo. It's been a brisk shoot and a hectic pace, but now, at the end, the director can find time to reflect. Ahmed Best and the on location crew talk to Lucas in this, the last installment of the series. |
